The Indonesian pavilion has captured attention at the Saudi International Handicrafts Week Exhibition (Banan) with stunning batik pieces.
Through an exceptional blend between traditional batik techniques and motifs inspired by different regions of the Kingdom, the pavilion showcased marvelous pieces highlighting both cultures.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), batik art is an integral component in Indonesian culture, and secures a place in the UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
In what can be described as a creative process, batik is based on a meticulous process known as wax resist-dyeing to create its intricate patterns. Interestingly, the patterns usually feature various designs boasting cultural and religious significance. Therefore, they deeply mirror the close connection between Indonesians and their environment.
“Through art, we can bridge cultural divides and foster global harmony. Batik, with its rich history and enduring appeal, continues to inspire and connect people across the world,” Dalia Alyahya, head of the handcrafts sector at the Heritage Commission stated.
This mix between Indonesian and Saudi artistic traditions emphasizes the power of art to transcend cultural boundaries.
