Bahrain and France on Friday signed a landmark defense cooperation agreement during talks between King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and President Emmanuel Macron in Paris, according to Reuters.
The French Presidency noted that the deal fosters defense cooperation between Paris and Manama, broadening collaboration in military training and the exchange of strategic intelligence.
“This agreement will also open up new opportunities for industrial cooperation in defense, and strengthen solidarity between our two countries in a global and regional geopolitical context marked by increasing tensions,” the presidency said.
The agreement was formally signed by Bahrain’s National Security Adviser and Secretary General of the Supreme Defense Council, Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, alongside France’s Minister Delegate to the Armed Forces and Veterans, Alice Rufo.
During the talks, Macron highlighted the depth of the historical ties between Bahrain and France, along with the progress achieved across various domains.
The talks also explored new avenues to strengthen bilateral relations across all sectors to achieve mutual interests.
Both sides praised the efforts of the Joint Bahraini-French High Committee, spotlighting its achievements in bolstering cooperation and highlighting the significance of increasing its efforts to further expand collaboration across multiple domains.
