AlUla Citrus Festival Helps Promote Local Products

The AlUla Citrus Festival, held in the cultural oasis of AlUla , contributed to supporting the farmers of the region by marketing their diverse crops, according to Saudi Press Agency.

Throughout the festival, the farmers were offered stands to display their products. The products were also marketed on social media.

Huge numbers of the festival’s visitors from various countries around the world were interested to buy these products.

Royal Commission’s Objectives

 

The Royal Commission for AlUla aims, through organizing the festival, to stimulate economic growth in the governorate through community initiatives and development projects.

The governorate’s farms, numbering 4,700, host over 200,000 citrus trees of various types. These trees are capable of producing thousands of tons of fruit in a single season.

 

The Royal Commission for AlUla assigns significant importance to the agricultural sector in AlUla, aiming to support economic opportunities, enhance competitiveness among producers and promote agricultural development.

Moreover, it aims to create more opportunities for the residents of the governorate. This aligns with its vision in harmony with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

AlUla Citrus Festival

 

The Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate launched the third edition of AlUla Citrus Festival. The festival takes place during the seasonal harvest of citrus fruits. It showcases various types of fruits renowned in AlUla farms.

The AlUla Citrus Festival welcomed visitors on weekends over two weeks, on the 5th, 6th, 12th, and 13th of the month, highlighting AlUla’s agricultural stature. Participating farmers displayed Al-Ula’s diverse citrus crops in an agricultural and economic celebration, featuring local products from AlUla residents.

Festival’s Objectives

 

Aligned with the Saudi Vision 2030, the Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate gives significant importance to the agricultural sector in AlUla. It aims to support economic opportunities, increase competitiveness among producers and enhance agricultural development’s role.

Also it exerts efforts to create more opportunities for the locals of AlUla, and offer a unique experience to visitors by showcasing the agricultural sector. This sector is a prominent tourism component in the region’s present and future.

The plains and valleys of AlUla Governorate contain about more than 200,000 citrus trees, spread over 800 hectares. Citrus fruits are the second most important fruit crop after date palms. This represents 30% of the total diverse citrus production in the Kingdom, according to approximate statistics issued by the Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate.

Variety of Citrus Crops

 

Prominent citrus crops in AlUla include oranges, sweet lemons, citrons, sugar oranges, mandarins, and clementines. The festival provides a vibrant market for local producers to sell their crops, which amount to about 15,000 tons annually.

This edition of the festival also included exhibition platforms for local families and farmers.

Moreover, it offered a range of interactive activities for residents and visitors with food and beverage providers in AlUla. Local farmers showcased their best products and competed for a variety of prizes.

Furthermore, there was live cooking shows. A number of renowned chefs prepared a special selection of healthy and delicious dishes made from fruits especially citrus for the festival’s guests.
