Albudaiwi Condemns Israeli Bombing of Qatari Committee Headquarters
Mr. Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) strongly condemned the Israeli bombing of the headquarters of the Qatari Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza.
GCC described the act as further evidence of the brutality and recklessness of the occupation forces, violating international treaties, laws, and norms.
The attack was seen as an aggressive move against a symbol of humanitarian and reconstruction efforts in a region deeply affected by conflict.
About Qatari Committee for Gaza Reconstruction
The Qatari Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza, since its inception in 2012, has been a pivotal entity in the region’s development and reconstruction.
The Committee was spearheaded by an initial $407 million grant from HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani. It has overseen numerous humanitarian projects.
These projects have significantly contributed to meeting the varied needs of the people of Gaza in numerous fields. The Committee has become a model in architecture and construction, as well as in providing essential needs to the region.
Israeli-Palestinian Conflict in Gaza
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict dates back to the late 19th century. The Zionist movement aspired to establish a homeland for the Jewish people in Ottoman-controlled Palestine. This led to the Balfour Declaration of 1917 and the subsequent establishment of Israel in 1948.
The creation of Israel and the associated wars led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians. Despite various peace negotiations over the years, a lasting agreement remains elusive.
The conflict has been marked by violence and complexities. Israeli defense strategies, control over territories, and internal Palestinian politics, further complicating the path to peace.
Role of International Community
In light of recent events, Mr. Albudaiwi emphasized the need for the international community to engage in direct measures to resolve the crisis. The measures includes an immediate cessation of hostilities and the establishment of secure corridors for humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
The GCC stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people for their rights to establish their state with East Jerusalem as its capital. The stance underscores the regional and international dimensions of this conflict.
The bombing of the Qatari Committee’s headquarters in Gaza represents an escalation in the ongoing conflict. It also highlights the fragility of reconstruction and humanitarian efforts in the region.
This incident serves as a reminder of the complexities and deep-rooted issues in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It requires a concerted effort from the international community for a sustainable solution.
