Saudi Arabia and Bahrain are strengthening their bilateral cooperation with a new passenger sea route that officials say will boost maritime ties and open new horizons for regional connectivity, according to Gulf News.
Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Dr. Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, unveiled the plan during the Second Maritime Industries Sustainability Conference in Jeddah.
The new route is set to connect Bahrain’s Khalifa bin Salman Port with Saudi Arabia’s King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, with officials anticipating that it would enhance passenger and cargo transport while bolstering collaboration between the two neighboring Gulf nations.
Moreover, Sheikh Abdullah emphasized that talks are ongoing concerning the long-anticipated King Hamad Causeway project, which would further foster connectivity and economic integration between both kingdoms.
The planned causeway, set to run parallel to the existing King Fahd Causeway, would span approximately 25 kilometers and feature passenger trains, freight trains, and vehicles.
Notably, the causeway seeks to relieve congestion on the current crossing while enhancing trade and travel links between both countries.
