Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs in US to Pave Way for Trump’s Visit

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, arrived in the US on Tuesday to finalize plans for President Trump’s Spring visit to the Kingdom. The high-level discussions will also address Gaza’s humanitarian crisis and Yemen’s Houthi threats, Reuters reported.

Gaza and Yemen Dominate Diplomatic Talks

Prince Faisal aims to coordinate strategies with US officials to stabilize Gaza and counter Houthi attacks on Red Sea shipping lanes. Additionally, Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its opposition to Trump’s controversial Gaza governance proposal, aligning with global criticism.

The trip preceded last week’s US tariff announcement, which sparked market volatility and fears of falling oil prices. Analysts warn prolonged tariffs could strain Saudi Arabia’s oil-dependent economy. US President Trump plans to visit Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE in May, marking his first international trip since reelection. Key agendas include signing a bilateral investment pact and reinforcing regional security partnerships.

Revisiting Historic Diplomatic Priorities

In 2017, Trump chose Saudi Arabia and Israel for his inaugural presidential visit, signaling strong Gulf alliances. His upcoming tour echoes this strategic focus.

Recent US airstrikes against Houthi targets mark Trump’s largest Middle East military operation since 2017. The campaign aims to safeguard Red Sea trade routes amid escalating regional tensions.

While Trump expressed optimism about a Gaza ceasefire, Saudi leaders urged renewed multilateral efforts to resolve conflicts. The kingdom continues advocating for de-escalation in Yemen and Palestinian statehood.
