Saudi Foreign Minister Warns Against Israeli Attack on Rafah

The situation in Gaza is alarming and tense. On Monday, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Saudi Foreign Minister, gave a strong speech at the UN Human Rights Council. He warned that an Israeli attack on Rafah, south of Gaza, would have catastrophic consequences.

Rafah: the Last Refuge For Civilians

Rafah is a city on the border between Egypt and Gaza. About 230,000 people who live there, are mostly refugees from other parts of Gaza. Israeli airstrikes and ground incursions have devastated those parts. Rafah also has the only crossing point between Gaza and Egypt. The Egyptian authorities often close or restrict it.

Prince Faisal stated that the Israeli army had displaced the civilians who were in Rafah. He warned that an attack on Rafah would have disastrous repercussions. It would not only harm the people of Gaza, but also threaten the stability and security of the region and the world. In addition, he mentioned that such an attack would violate international law and human rights. It would also undermine efforts to achieve a lasting and comprehensive peace.

Double Standards and the Need for a Ceasefire

The Saudi Foreign Minister also denounced the double standards of some countries toward the crisis in Gaza. He stressed that some countries ignored or downplayed the suffering and violations of the Palestinian people. Others supported or justified the Israeli aggression. He called on the international community to end the escalation and war, and to protect civilians.

He also repeated calls for an immediate ceasefire, and for the resumption of the peace process. The two-state solution and the relevant UN resolutions should guide the process. Furthermore, he stated that Saudi Arabia supported the efforts of Egypt and other countries to mediate and facilitate a truce. Saudi Arabia stands with the Palestinian people in their quest for their rights and dignity.

In conclusion, Prince Faisal’s speech was a clear and strong message to the world, especially to Israel and its allies. Saudi Arabia will not tolerate any attack on Rafah or any other part of Gaza. He also expressed the solidarity of Saudi Arabia with the Palestinian cause, and the urgency of finding a peaceful and just solution to the conflict. Many countries and organizations praised the Saudi role and leadership in the region and the world.
