2023 Club World Cup: Al Ahly’s Expected Line-Up vs. Fluminense

Swiss coach Marcel Koller, the technical director of Al Ahly, has settled on the line-up for the Red Devils against Brazil’s Fluminense in the semi-finals of the 2023 Club World Cup in Jeddah.

The Egyptian champions advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad 3-1 in the quarter-finals last Friday.

Expected Line-Up for Al Ahly Against Fluminense

– Goalkeeper: Mohamed El-Shenawy

– Defense: Ali Maâloul, Mohamed Abdelmonem, Yasser Ibrahim, Mohamed Hany.

– Midfield: Marwan Attia, Imam Ashour, Ahmed Nabil Kouka.

– Attack: Percy Tau, Hussein El Shahat, Mahmoud ‘Kahraba’.

Al Ahly participates in the Club World Cup for the ninth time in its history and the fourth time in a row.

The Red Devils are aiming to achieve a historic milestone by qualifying for the final for the first time, having previously won the bronze medal three times.

However, FIFA, the International Federation of Association Football, has refused to allow Al Ahly’s players to wear shirts bearing the number 72 during their warm-up before today’s semi-final match against Fluminense.

Al Ahly players traditionally wear these shirts in memory of the 72 fans who died in the 2012 Port Said disaster. This happened following a match against Al-Masry.

Al Ahly stated that it received a letter from FIFA regarding a violation for wearing these shirts before their match against Al-Ittihad last Friday, which ended in a 3-1 victory. FIFA’s regulations prohibit wearing any attire with “religious, political, or personal messages for any reason.”

The African champion added, “Al Ahly’s delegation responded to FIFA, explaining the reasons behind wearing the number 72 warm-up shirts. However, FIFA confirmed that Al Ahly would face sanctions if it violates the international federation’s regulations.”

Al Ahly is set to play against Fluminense, the Copa Libertadores champions, in the 2023 Club World Cup semi-finals.

The Egyptian champions qualified to face Fluminense after their 3-1 victory over Al-Ittihad in the quarter-finals last Friday.

Coach Marcel Koller of Al Ahly aims to secure a win against the Brazilian champions and advance to the World Cup final.
