Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) has introduced five new logistics routes aimed at enhancing supply chain efficiency and supporting the integration of multiple transport modes, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The new routes connect ports along the Arabian Gulf with Saudi Arabia’s central and northern regions, while also extending toward the Red Sea and neighboring countries to the north.
In line with the Saudi Vision 2030, the initiative leverages an integrated multimodal network of road and rail in accordance with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.
Interestingly, the new routes enable the efficient movement of petrochemicals and mineral resources through an integrated logistics system that includes the Riyadh Dry Port and major cargo terminals in Dammam, Jubail, Ras Al-Khair, Al-Kharj, Hail, as well as Al-Qurayyat.
This infrastructure offers direct links between domestic industrial hubs and international shipping lines. Therefore, they will shorten transit times while also fostering operational efficiency across the Kingdom’s major industrial and mining sectors.
Commenting on the launch, SAR CEO Bashar AlMalik indicated that the new routes are anticipated to take thousands of trucks off the road, improving traffic safety and reducing carbon emissions.
