UN Human Rights Council Adopts Resolution Condemning Israeli Settlements

The UN Human Rights Council has passed a resolution, introduced by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, reaffirming that Israeli settlements in territories occupied since 1967—including East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights—are illegal and pose a significant barrier to achieving a two-state solution.

The resolution calls for an immediate stop to all settlement activity and urges compliance with international law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention. It also highlights the importance of protecting Palestinian civilians and preventing demographic changes in the occupied territories.

Additionally, the resolution condemns practices such as land seizures, home demolitions, forced displacement, and violence linked to settlers.

The council further encourages all states to avoid supporting settlement activities, including through trade or investment, and emphasizes the need for legal accountability and the promotion of human rights.
