Supreme Court Calls for Sighting  Shawwal Crescent Today

The Supreme Court has called on all Muslims across the Kingdom to sight the crescent moon of the month of Shawwal on the evening of today, Wednesday, the 29th of Ramadan for the year 1447—according to the Umm al-Qura calendar—corresponding to March 18, 2026.

This came in an announcement by the Court, the text of which is as follows:

Based on the Supreme Court’s decision No. (204/H) dated 29/8/1447, which determined that Wednesday, 1/9/1447—according to the Umm al-Qura calendar—corresponding to February 18, 2026, was the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan for the year 1447, the Supreme Court calls on all Muslims throughout the Kingdom to sight the crescent moon of Shawwal on the evening of Wednesday, 29/9/1447 AH—according to the Umm al-Qura calendar—corresponding to March 18, 2026.

The Supreme Court requests that anyone who sights it with the naked eye or through binoculars report to the nearest court and register their testimony, or contact the nearest center to assist them in reaching the closest court.

The Supreme Court also hopes that those who are capable of sighting will give this matter due attention, join the committees formed in the regions for this purpose, and seek reward and merit through participation, as it involves cooperation in righteousness and piety and benefits all Muslims.
