70000 Metric Tons of Saudi Oil Derivatives Grant Arrive in Aden
The second batch of the first Saudi oil derivatives grant provided to Yemen through the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen landed this week at the oil port in the Yemeni interim capital, Aden.
This came in the context of the Kingdom’s efforts to support the electricity sector, improve livelihood opportunities, and support the legitimate government.
While this batch of supplies amounted to 40,000 metric tons of diesel and 30,000 metric tons of fuel oil, the value of the most recent Saudi oil grant for electricity in Yemen amounts to $200 million, to operate more than 70 power stations in the liberated governorates. This comes as part of the support for economic development provided by Saudi Arabia to Yemen.
This grant was preceded by a previous Saudi grant of $420 million that was exhausted before Saudi Arabia announced the updated grant. The grant is jointly supervised by Yemeni government agencies and the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen.
The Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen office in Aden received the incoming fuel from Eng. Ahmed Al-Madkhali, reviewed the contributions of oil grants to economic stability, strengthening the government budget, improving public conditions and services, as well as raising the rate of electricity operating hours, and its reflection on the provision of service by the Electricity Corporation for 760,000 subscribers and about 9 million and 800,000 beneficiaries.
In the same context, the Deputy Minister of Electricity and Energy in the Yemeni government, Engineer Abdullah Hajar, stressed the importance of the Saudi grant. He said it was its direct contribution to the stability of the electric power system and reducing the large deficit in providing electricity to citizens.
The Houthi coup militia targeted vital oil facilities and ports with terrorist operations in the Hadramout and Shabwa governorates. Abdul Hakim Fadel, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity and Energy in the Yemeni government, appreciated Saudi Arabia’s continued generous support for Yemen in various fields.
