World’s Top Players Shine as WTA Finals 2025 Kick Off in Riyadh

The 2025 WTA Finals officially began yesterday at King Saud University in Riyadh, marking the second consecutive year the Kingdom has hosted the prestigious tournament. Organized by the Saudi Tennis Federation under the supervision of the Ministry of Sport and sponsored by the Public Investment Fund, the event has drawn global attention for its world-class competition and vibrant atmosphere.

Day one delivered thrilling matchups, strong attendance, and extensive media coverage. In the Serena Williams singles group, Poland’s Iga Świątek defeated America’s Madison Keys, while Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina overcame America’s Amanda Anisimova.

In doubles play, Italy’s Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani triumphed over America’s Asia Muhammad and the Netherlands’ Demi Schuurs. Taiwan’s Su-Wei Hsieh and Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko also secured victory against Belgium’s Elise Mertens and Russia’s Veronika Kudermetova in the Martina Navratilova group.

The action continues today with matches from the Steffi Graf group, featuring Belarus’s Aryna Sabalenka facing Italy’s Jasmine Paolini, and an all-American showdown between Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula. The Liezel Huber doubles group will also see Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski and New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe take on Russia’s Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider, while the Czech Republic’s Kateřina Siniaková and America’s Taylor Townsend meet Brazil’s Luisa Stefani and Hungary’s Tímea Babos.
