U.S., KSA Lay of Foundation Stone of New US Embassy in Riyadh
On Tuesday, the US State Department celebrated the laying of the foundation stone for a new building for the US Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Capital, according to Alhurra. It will cover an area exceeding 100,000 square metres. The department said that the building will be “remarkable” in terms of architectural design.
A State Department statement stated that the new building is “milestone in the enduring U.S.-Saudi bilateral partnership.” Moreover, it underscore ” the commitment of both nations to strengthening ties.”
The department stated that the building, which will be located within the Diplomatic Quarter (Al Safarat) in Riyadh, will include “the latest security and sustainability features.” Therefore, this would guarantee the embassy’s staff a modern and secure workspace.
It pointed out that the design of the building, which is located on an area of 27.5 acres is “inspired by the traditional architecture of the region.”
Morphosis of Los Angeles, Caddell Construction Co., LLC of Montgomery, Alabama, and Integrus Architecture of Seattle are responsible for constructing the new building.
Deputy Assistant Secretary for Arabian Peninsula Affairs Daniel Benaim, Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed El-Khereiji and U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Michael Ratney attended a remarkable ceremony for the new building.
The current US Ambassador to KSA is Michael Ratney. Sworn in as ambassador in March, 2023, the American diplomat is leading a diversified team of a thousand Americans, Saudis and 20 other nationalities.
U.S. Consulates in KSA
Besides the embassy, the United States of America has two consulates in the Kingdom. The first one is in Dhahran, while the second is in Jeddah.
