Thunderstorm Rains Affect 10 Regions in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has recently been hit by a spell of thunderstorm rains affecting 10 different regions. The sudden weather change has brought about a series of challenges and alerts issued by the authorities.

Thunderstorm Alert

The National Centre of Metrology (NCM) and the General Directorate of Civil Defence issued warnings about the thunderstorms expected to affect several regions including Mecca, Taif, Maysaan, Adham, Al Ardiyat, and Al Kamil.

These regions were forecasted to experience medium to heavy rainfall, which might escalate to torrential downpours accompanied by hail and gusty winds​​​​.

Regions Affected

Other regions that were expected to be affected by this weather disturbance include Asir, Al Baha, and Jazan, with a forecast of light to medium rain for Medina, Tabuk, and Najran regions.

In the Riyadh region, specific areas like Howtat Bani Tamim, Al Aflaj, As Sulayyil, Al Kharj, Al Hariq, and Al Sharqiyah region were also expected to receive light to medium rainfall. These showers might be accompanied by wind gusts stirring up dust​​.

Civil Defence Advisory

Saudi Arabia’s civil defense authorities urged residents to exercise caution during this period.

They emphasized the importance of staying indoors to avoid any risks associated with these weather disturbances.

The advisories also included avoiding areas prone to flash floods and refraining from swimming in these zones due to the potential risks involved​​.

Preventive Measures

The region’s Crisis and Disaster Management Centre called on residents to take precautions and avoid places where water accumulates.

Besides, officials at the General Directorate of Civil Defence and other relevant authorities remained on high alert to manage any emergencies arising due to the extreme weather conditions​​.

The sudden thunderstorm rains in Saudi Arabia necessitated prompt action from both the authorities and the residents to mitigate the risks involved.

The situation also underscored the importance of having robust disaster management systems in place to deal with such unforeseen weather disturbances.
