The Arab League: Iran might be seeking to develop a nuclear weapon
The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, expressed his deep concern about the Iranian authorities’ decision to begin enriching uranium at 60%.
An official source in the General Secretariat stated to the Al-Watan newspaper that the Secretary-General considers this decision a serious and clear step towards developing a nuclear weapon. The unnecessary highly enriched uranium for peaceful uses increases doubts about the real goals of the Iranian nuclear program.
The source added that this unfortunate development comes in the context of continuous violations by Iran of its obligations under the nuclear deal, which is currently undergoing intense negotiations to revive it.
In this regard, the speaker reiterates the great importance of not limiting negotiations to the nuclear aspect and the need to reach an agreement that addresses the concerns of Arab countries concerning Iran’s destabilizing policies in the region.
