SWPC Aims to Provide Sustainable Water Resources

Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) aims to deliver secure, affordable, and sustainable water resources and services in Saudi Arabia, in partnership with the private sector​​.

This aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader Vision 2030 program, which seeks to diversify the economy, enhance the role of the private sector.

Key Projects, Strategies

A significant aspect of SWPC’s strategy involves developing 28 projects in collaboration with the private sector.

These projects encompass a variety of crucial areas including water and wastewater treatment, water transmission.

Importantly, these initiatives include Independent Water Plant (IWP) projects, Independent Water Transmission Projects (IWTP), Independent Strategic Water Reservoir (ISWR) projects, and Independent Sewage Treatment Plant (ISTP) projects.

This diversified approach, therefore, ensures a robust and sustainable water infrastructure for the nation.

Overcoming Challenges

SWPC faces several challenges in its journey toward water sustainability.

For instance, the initial elimination of operating tariff subsidies was unpopular and had to be scaled back.

National Water Company’s Role

The National Water Company (NWC) has significantly expanded its responsibilities under Vision 2030.

Now overseeing potable water distribution and wastewater collection and treatment for the entire country. This notable expansion encompasses privatization initiatives and regional management contracts with various private entities.

The primary aim of these efforts is to enhance service coverage and improve efficiency.

In parallel, SWPC’s unwavering commitment to water sustainability stands as a pivotal aspect of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.

By forging strategic partnerships with the private sector and diligently overcoming operational challenges, SWPC earnestly strives to ensure a sustainable water future.
