At the 2025 Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi youth developer Faisal Alhashem stood out with his innovative game SHOTBALL. Displayed across interactive screens in the tournament’s gaming areas, the project drew attention as a symbol of Saudi creativity and ambition in the growing esports scene.
In an interview with the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Alhashem revealed that SHOTBALL has been in development since October 2022, taking nearly two-and-a-half years of work. While the game has no official release date yet, he emphasized that it remains in constant testing to refine mechanics and deliver the best experience.

Backed by Holodot, Community Support
The game is being developed under Holodot, Alhashem’s own company specializing in electronic game design. He explained that the project benefited from financial support and strong promotion on social media, helping it progress to an advanced stage and gain recognition as one of Saudi Arabia’s standout creative initiatives.
Alhashem said that the concept originated during a business incubator program, where he and his peers joked about creating the perfect Saudi game by blending elements of FIFA and Call of Duty. What started as a lighthearted thought soon evolved into a unique gameplay experience that merges football with shooting mechanics.
Game with Saudi Identity
The core idea of SHOTBALL revolves around controlling a ball with weapons in a competitive, fast-paced environment. Alhashem emphasized that the game’s elements were designed in Arabic to connect with local players and reflect the spirit of Saudi innovation in gaming.

Public Trials at Tournament
A new version of SHOTBALL is being made available for public testing during the Esports World Cup, running until Saturday. This trial allows players to engage directly with the game and experience its unique mechanics firsthand.
Alhashem stressed that his ambition goes beyond one project—he hopes to create the first fully Saudi-made esports game, produced entirely by local talent. “What we are offering today is not just a game but the beginning of a journey toward a global industry with the mark of Saudi youth,” he said.
Shaping New Industry
As one of many creators supported by Saudi Arabia’s cultural and technological renaissance, Alhashem represents the Kingdom’s growing presence in global innovation. His participation in the Esports World Cup showcases how Saudi minds are no longer on the sidelines but are actively redefining the future of esports in line with the nation’s ambitions.
