Saudi Sports for All Federation Introduces Football Program for Adults

The Saudi Sports for All Federation (SFA), in collaboration with the Newcastle United Foundation, introduced a football initiative aimed at motivating adults aged 35 to 50. This partnership, reported by the Saudi Press Agency, aims to energize Saudi Arabia’s sports sector and motivate adults to engage in football.

Pioneering Adult Football Program

On Monday, this innovative program was officially launched, marking a significant milestone in promoting sports among adults in KSA. The initiative specifically targets individuals aged 35 to 50. However, it goes beyond traditional football engagement and embodies a broader vision. A key feature of the program is “walking football,” a unique adaptation designed for individuals over the age of 50. This accommodates those who may face mobility challenges or prefer a less physically demanding version of the game.

Furthermore, the program introduces a specialized weight loss scheme tailored for participants with a body mass index (BMI) of 27.5 or higher. This inclusion underscores the program’s holistic approach to health and fitness. It also recognizes the importance of addressing overweight and obesity issues through engaging in physical activities.

Leveraging Football for Health & Wellness

The Newcastle United Foundation, renowned for its commitment to utilizing football as a tool for positive change, brings its expertise to this partnership. As an independent charity in the UK, the foundation has a rich history of using football to connect with communities. Additionally, it motivates individuals and inspires healthier lifestyles. By extending its reach to KSA, the foundation aims to replicate its success and contribute to KSA’s sports culture.

This collaboration aligns seamlessly with the objectives of the Quality of Life Program under Saudi Vision 2030. By promoting physical activity and healthy living through football, the partnership endeavors to enhance the quality of life for Saudis. Consequently, it encourages a balanced and healthy lifestyle among adults who might otherwise lead sedentary lives.

SFA Aims Towards Inclusive Sports Access

SFA President Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud expressed enthusiasm about the program’s launch. He highlighted it as reflecting the federation’s commitment to inclusivity in sports. The initiative is seen as a vital step in ensuring that every member of the community, regardless of age or physical condition, has the opportunity to engage in sporting activities. Alwaleed’s comments underscore the broader vision of the program: to democratize access to sports and foster a culture where physical activity is a universal right, not a privilege.

The partnership between the SFA and Newcastle United Foundation is a pioneering effort to transform sports participation in KSA. By targeting an often-overlooked demographic, this program contributes to the physical well-being of individuals. Additionally, it plays a crucial role in the social and economic health of the wider community. Through this collaboration, Saudi Arabia takes a significant leap forward in realizing its Vision 2030 goals, setting a benchmark for sports-based community development and health promotion initiatives.
