Saudi Ports Handle More than 331 Million Tons of Cargo in 2024

The total volume of outgoing and incoming cargo handled through the Kingdom’s ports in 2024 exceeded 331 million tons. Exports reached 222.4 million tons, marking a 9.3% increase compared to 2023, while imports amounted to approximately 108.9 million tons, a 3.6% rise.

 

Leading Ports for Exports, Imports

According to the General Authority for Statistics’ maritime transport bulletin, King Fahd Industrial Port in Yanbu topped the Kingdom’s ports in exports, accounting for 51% of total exports. King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam led as the main recipient of imports with 38 million tons, representing about 35% of total imports.

Total Cargo Handled, Container Statistics

The bulletin stated that the total cargo handled at Saudi ports exceeded 334 million tons, with King Fahd Industrial Port in Yanbu managing the largest share at 39.7%. King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam ranked first in handling standard containers at 51.1%. Liquid bulk cargo topped the list of goods handled, totaling more than 177 million tons.

Transshipment cargo totaled over 21 million tons, distributed as 10.4 million tons unloaded and 11 million tons loaded, in addition to nearly 2 million standard containers.

 

Vessel Arrivals at Saudi Ports

The number of vessels arriving at Saudi ports reached 8,693.

  • Jeddah Islamic Port received the largest share with 3,805 vessels.
  • King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam followed with 1,980 vessels.
  • NEOM Port handled 951 vessels.

Container Traffic, Passenger Movement

The total number of exported and imported containers exceeded 2.5 million, including 1.3 million exported containers and over 1.2 million imported containers.

Regarding passenger movement, 913,000 passengers arrived and departed through Saudi ports in 2024, a 19.6% decrease compared to 2023. Jazan Port topped passenger traffic with over 485,000 passengers.
