The Pakistani top diplomat, for his part, extended his gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s continued support for Pakistan, emphasizing Islamabad’s resolve to work closely with the Kingdom to further bolster cooperation on regional and international issues.

The phone call came on the heels of a temporary ceasefire announced between Pakistan and Afghanistan, following deadly border clashes between the two Asian neighbors.

The ceasefire took effect from 13:00 GMT on Wednesday and would run for 48 hours, according to BBC.

“During this period, both sides will make sincere efforts to find a positive solution to this complex but solvable issue through constructive dialogue,” Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said.

In response, the Afghani government spokesman said Afghan forces had received instructions to respect the ceasefire “as long as no one commits aggression.”
