Saudi Expands Adoption of Smart City Technology in Riyadh

Many major cities in Riyadh follow smart city technology, which in turn collects data from sensors to manage various services efficiently. The technology aims to reduce distribution to residents.

The collected data can be used to enhance various aspects. In addition, it enhances traffic flow, waste management, water systems, and health services.

Cities around the world, from Barcelona to London, Toronto, San Diego, and Dubai, have already begun implementing smart city technologies in varying capacities.

Furthermore, all major cities are currently preparing to adopt and integrate smart city technologies into their infrastructure.

Smart City

The Medina Region Development Authority uses data and artificial intelligence to enhance the Saudi economy through the application of smart city technology. Furthermore, it will have a positive impact on on tourism and enhance job opportunities.

Technological Transformation in Medina

Medina is the holiest cities in Saudi Arabia. It is has an important center for manufacturing chemicals.  That center includes one of the largest oil refineries in the world, and is a logistics center in the energy field.

The city receives 9 million visitors annually, and it aims to attract 30 million by 2030. As a result, the Authority issued a smart city experience booklet to improve the quality of life of the city’s citizens and visitors.

Saudi Vision 2030

The city of Riyadh continues its efforts to improve the standard of living of its residents. Among these improvements are development projects in King Salman Park.

In addition, Riyadh will inaugurate a sports street extending from southwest of Riyadh through the city center to the northeast of the city to meet the needs of cyclists and runners.

The scale of transformation that has occurred over a relatively short period of time is promising. As a result of future vision and enthusiastic energy of its youth, Saudi is making significant progress towards achieving its ambitious goals.
