Saudi Border Guard Celebrates 1st Coastal Patrol Vehicle at Camel Festival

On the sidelines of the King Abdulaziz Camel Festival, the Saudi General Directorate of Border Guard pavilion at the Security Oasis Exhibition is showcasing the first coastal patrol vehicle that entered into service 72 years ago.

In 1952, the General Directorate of Border Guard (the General Directorate of Frontier Forces, Ports and Coast Guard at the time) used the first coastal patrol unit to protect the coastlines of Saudi Arabia’s western regions.

The coastal patrol unit included a 4×4 vehicle, equipped with a 3-speed gearbox. In addition to patrolling Saudi Arabia‘s coastal borders, its tasks involved towing ships with front-mounted winches.

The now-heritage vehicle is on display at the Ministry of Interior’s Security Oasis Exhibition, held alongside the King Abdulaziz Camel Festival at the Al-Sayahid, northeast of Riyadh.

Running until December 31, 2024, the Security Oasis Exhibition takes visitors on an immersive journey through a variety of events and presentations, highlighting the Border Guard Directorate’s efforts and services over the past 115 years.

The exhibition hosts a shooting range, in addition to historical, educational, and interactive zones featuring augmented reality (AR) simulations.

It also showcases the Border Guards’ efforts in combating drug trafficking, enhancing border security awareness, conducting search and rescue operations, and monitoring land and maritime borders.

Furthermore, the Security Oasis Exhibition offers a diverse range of services, including civil registry, passports, public security, as well as medical and emergency services.
