Saudi Arabia, UK Wrap up Strategic Dialogue on Humanitarian Assistance

Saudi Arabia and the UK have concluded the Second Strategic Dialogue on International Development and Humanitarian Assistance on Tuesday with a high-level plenary session, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The dialogue commenced on Monday at the KSrelief headquarters in Riyadh under the leadership of the organization’s General Supervisor, Abdullah Al-Rabeeah.

The Saudi delegation included the Kingdom’s Ambassador to the UK, Prince Khalid bin Bandar, and the CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development, Sultan Al-Murshid.

Andrew Mitchell, the Deputy Foreign Secretary and Minister of State for Development and Africa, led the British delegation that included the British Ambassador to the Kingdom, Neil Crompton.

The two-day dialogue covered a vast array of discussions tackling the most pressing challenges of humanitarian aid and development.

Aqeel Al-Ghamdi, the Assistant General Supervisor for Planning and Development at Saudi Aid Agency KSrelief, reviewed the outcomes and recommendations of the dialogue.

The discussions involved a strategic agreement to lay the foundation of the cooperation between the countries to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Al-Ghamdi announced that both countries have agreed to collaborate together on mutual projects in Bangladesh, Ukraine and Sudan, including the exchange of expertise, skills and research.

The forum marked the signing of a MoU between the Saudi Fund for Development and UK authorities, aiming at strengthening the cooperative relations.

Two Roundtable Meetings

On Tuesday, the participants took part in two roundtable meetings themed “The Effectiveness of Aid, Research and Study Impact” and “Community Resilience, Results-based Management, Monitoring and Evaluation”.

The first meeting covered the following topics:

  • How to facilitate the exchange of successful strategies and the lessons gleaned from them
  • Fostering effective development practices
  • Enhancing concrete and implementable recommendations to integrate community resilience
  • Mechanisms of evaluating future projects
  • Supporting the current partnerships between the countries through a mutual commitment to strengthening the effective aid and sustainable development
  • The significance of cooperation in improving the interconnected humanitarian aids
  • Ensuring peace and security in fragile countries

The other meeting delved into the following discussions:

  • Reviewing the progress made to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals
  • How to accelerate the efforts and overcome the challenges
  • Exploring new horizons for promoting the bilateral cooperation
