Saudi Arabia Leads Globally with Most Connected Road Network: Minister

Saudi Arabia’s world-class road network has achieved global recognition as the most connected, according to Minister of Transport and Logistics Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser. Speaking at the Future Minerals Forum in Riyadh, Al-Jasser highlighted the Kingdom’s robust infrastructure, which supports the mining industry and enhances logistics efficiency.

Infrastructure Driving Economic Growth

Al-Jasser emphasized Saudi Arabia’s decades-long investment in roads and modern ports equipped with cutting-edge technologies. The Kingdom’s 5,500-kilometer railway network plays a pivotal role in supporting logistics and mining operations. Last year alone, over 25 million tons of goods, primarily minerals, were transported via railways.

Additionally, the minister revealed that 50% of transport and logistics funding will focus on expanding railways, which are crucial for industrial and mineral growth. Over the past three years, railway lines have doubled, and connections to ports surged from 53 to 115. These advancements align with Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to position the Kingdom as a global logistics hub.

Resilience Amid Global Challenges

Al-Jasser underscored the resilience of Saudi Arabia’s transport system, tested during the COVID-19 pandemic and the Red Sea crisis. Despite disruptions affecting 50% of Red Sea trade, the Kingdom recorded high single-digit growth in imports and exports last year. This resilience highlights the efficiency of Saudi Arabia’s modern, eco-friendly logistics network.

Moreover, Saudi Arabia has made significant strides in road safety, reducing serious accidents, fatalities, and injuries by over 50%. The “Safe Distinguished Roads” campaign has enhanced road quality, achieving a 5.7 rating, with ambitions to reach global excellence by 20309.

Future Prospects

With plans to expand the railway network to 8,000 kilometers and initiatives like the Asasat Program, Saudi Arabia aims to boost local industry participation and create thousands of jobs. These efforts reinforce the Kingdom’s commitment to economic diversification and sustainable development.

Saudi Arabia’s transport and logistics achievements not only strengthen its domestic economy but also solidify its role as a global leader in infrastructure and mining innovation.
