Saudi Arabia has launched the Golden Pen Award for Novels with a total prize pool of $690,000 and successful works to be turned into cinematic works.
The Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA), Turki Al-Alshaikh, has unveiled the award on Saturday in a post on social media platform X.
Al-Alshaikh stated that the competition will serve both Arab novelists and the regional film industry.
He announced that the competition will be open to original works in Arabic, and all nationalities and ages will be eligible.
Golden Pen Novel Awards
The awards will be divided as follows:
- First place: $100,000, and the work will be turned into a movie produced by the GEA
- Second place: $50,000, and the work will be adapted into a movie produced by the GEA
- Third place: $30,000
Novel Track Awards
The Novel Track Awards will grant $25,000 each to the best novels in the following categories:
- Romance
- Thriller and Mystery
- Comedy
- Action
- Fantasy
- Detective
- Horror
- Historical fiction
Best Screenplay Awards for a Literary Work
The awards include three categories:
- 1- First place: $100,000
- 2- Second place: $50,000
- 3- Third place: $30,000
Additional Awards
The Best Translated Novel Award will offer $100,000 to the winner.
Furthermore, the Audience Award, determined through a dedicated electronic voting platform, will provide $30,000.
Al-Alshaikh announced that the main judging panel will consist of three novelists, three screenwriters, and three producers from the Arab world, together with an additional committee for the initial screening stage.
Moreover, Saudi Arabia will hold a prestigious ceremony, televised and broadcasted on various platforms, to announce the winners of the competition.
