Saudi Arabia Joins Arab Summit Preparatory Meeting in Baghdad

The Saudi Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Waleed Al-Khuraiji, on Thursday took part in the Preparatory Meeting of the upcoming Arab Summit in Baghdad, on behalf of the Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

During the meeting, participants discussed the draft agenda for the 34th Ordinary Session of the Council of the Arab League at the Summit Level, taking place in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, on May 17, 2025.

Moreover, they reviewed the proposed resolutions set to be adopted at the Summit, in addition to discussing the latest regional developments.

Last week, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, received an official invitation from the Iraqi President, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, to attend the upcoming Arab League Summit and the 5th Session of the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit, which Iraq is hosting this month.

During his speech at the Preparatory Meeting, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, underscored the significance of the upcoming summit which “coincides with a pivotal moment in modern Arab history and carries great hopes,” he said, as quoted by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

He noted that the Summit’s agenda covers “several decisions concerning a range of Arab issues,” most notably Gaza, Syria and Lebanon. He added that the Summit aims to send a unified message to address regional crises and strengthen Arab national security.
