Saudi Arabia introduces a license for internet celebrity ads
The Saudi Arabian General Authority for Audio-Visual Media announced the formation of a license for internet celebrity ads delivered via social media platforms (Mawthoq) on Sunday.
To avoid taking legal action against them, including fines and penalties, the authority advised Saudis engaging in this activity to apply for a licence via the authority’s electronic services platform (Ilam) before 10/1/2022.
it called on those wishing to obtain it to apply through the “Elam” platform, noting that its value is 15,000 Saudi riyals, for a period of 3 years.
The regulation stipulated that internet celebrity who provide advertising content must abide by certain rules and regulations, including those governing advertising content and rating systems.
The requirements included that advertisements must be displayed through an account registered with the Authority and linked to the license granted to the licensee.
In addition, it must be noted before advertising that it is advertising content, whether in writing or orally, provided that this is clearly for the recipient.

The controls apply to all advertisements submitted by Saudi individuals and internet celebrity ads across all social media platforms, whether (clips, images, gifs, texts, phrases…etc).
