Saudi Arabia inaugurates the world’s largest floating desalination plant

The first floating water desalination plant in Saudi Arabia has begun operations in the port of Al Shuqaiq on the country’s west coast.

Saudi Arabia is initiating a package of water projects for the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture’s system, to assure supply security and improve water security throughout the country.

The new project, which was opened by Jazan Region Governor Prince Muhammad bin Nasser, is part of a collaboration between the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), the world’s largest desalination company, and Bahri Company, a global leader in logistics and transportation.

Floating water desalination facilities will be created for the Corporation as part of this collaboration, under the direction of its technical team of completely national cadres.

The battleships would be transported according to the needs of the various locations in Saudi Arabia, which was factored into the design.

These stations will help to ensure the availability of desalinated water at high levels in the future by adhering to the finest local and international norms and regulations.

The plant has a daily water production capacity of 50,000 cubic meters.

150,000 cubic meters

It will back the “Desalination” and “Bahri” projects, both of which are based on the building of floating water desalination plants, three of which (Desalination) own, with a total production capacity of 150,000 cubic meters of desalinated water per day.

It will also help to promote innovation, localization of cutting-edge technologies, the empowering of local content, and the creation of work opportunities for youth.
