Saudi Arabia Gears Up for 56th Cairo International Book Fair Participation

Saudi Arabia is ready to make its mark at the 56th Cairo International Book Fair. The Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission will lead the delegation. The commission will showcase the nation’s vibrant literary scene. The showcase will occur from January 23 to February 5, 2025. This prestigious event attracts 1,345 publishing houses. The event also attracts over 6,000 exhibitors. The exhibitors come from 80 countries. This makes the event a global cultural hub. The Egyptian General Book Organization organizes this prestigious event.

Strengthening Cultural, Literary Influence

Abdullatif Alwasel, the Commission’s Chief Executive Officer, emphasized that Saudi Arabia’s participation reflects ongoing efforts to enhance its presence in regional and global cultural scenes. The initiative aims to raise awareness of Saudi Arabia’s cultural heritage and highlight its growing contributions to global cultural movements.

Saudi Arabia’s delegation will include 11 government entities, with the Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission spearheading the efforts. The Saudi pavilion, the largest participating pavilion, will feature numerous private publishing houses and governmental organizations.

Saudi Arabia’s active participation underscores its commitment to cultural exchange and literary collaboration. The event offers a platform to showcase the Kingdom’s rich literary heritage and foster international cultural connections.

Cultural Diplomacy and Global Engagement

The participation also reflects the Kingdom’s growing role in cultural diplomacy, fostering international collaborations and cultural exchanges. By engaging with a global audience, the Kingdom aims to amplify the voices of Saudi writers and intellectuals, further solidifying its position as a cultural leader.

The Cairo International Book Fair, established in 1969, has evolved into one of the largest and most significant in the Middle East. The 2025 edition will honor the late Dr. Ahmed Mostagir, a renowned Egyptian scientist in agriculture and genetics, as the main guest of honor. Writer Fatima Al-Ma’adoul, a prominent pioneer of children’s literature in the Arab world, will be recognized as the Child Fair Personality.

The fair is expected to attract millions of visitors, continuing its tradition as a premier cultural event in the Arab world. In 2024, the fair attracted nearly five million visitors from across Egypt and beyond.
