Saudi Arabia Calls for De-escalation of India-Pakistan Tensions

Saudi Arabia on Wednesday voiced strong concern over rising tensions between India and Pakistan. The Kingdom focused on the continuing gunfire along their shared borders, which poses serious risks to regional stability.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement urging both nations to de-escalate the situation immediately. It emphasized the need to engage in diplomatic dialogue, prioritizing peaceful resolution over military confrontation. Additionally, the Kingdom highlighted the significance of upholding the principles of neighborly respect to achieve lasting peace for both countries.

Pakistan’s Alarm

Pakistan raised alarms on Wednesday, asserting that India might conduct a military strike within 24 to 36 hours. This warning comes as tensions escalated after a deadly attack in Indian-administered Kashmir last week. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar claimed that Islamabad received credible intelligence about India’s potential military actions, stemming from the April 22 attack that killed 26 people in Pahalgam.

Tarar firmly stated, “Pakistan reiterates that any military aggression by India will receive a decisive response.” He added that the international community must recognize that any escalation lies squarely with India.

India, on its part, alleged that the deadly attack had cross-border connections. In contrast, Islamabad distanced itself from the incident, expressing concern and offering assistance for an independent investigation into the attack’s circumstances.

Water Sharing and Diplomatic Tensions

Following the attack, India suspended the long-standing Indus Waters Treaty, drawing condemnation from Islamabad. This development further strained relations, as both countries also shut down border crossings and downgraded diplomatic ties.

Saudi Arabia is trying to defuse tensions between India and Pakistan after the deadly attack in the disputed Kashmir region. A senior Saudi official told AFP on Friday that the Kingdom is undertaking efforts to prevent an escalation between the two countries. Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan has held separate phone calls with his Indian and Pakistani counterparts to discuss the situation and ease tensions.

Saudi Arabia’s call for de-escalation and diplomatic resolution is crucial in preventing further escalation between India and Pakistan. The international community’s support for these efforts is essential in maintaining regional stability and peace.
