Riyadh will host the inaugural Saudi Athletics Grand Prix on May 15–16 at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University Stadium in a remarkable milestone that further reinforced Saudi Arabia’s position as a prestigious sporting hub, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The event brought together 200 to 300 athletes from more than 50 countries, competing across 31 men’s and women’s track and field events.
Managing Director of the Saudi Athletics Federation, Majed Basonbul, said that the launch of the Grand Prix stands as a testament to the Kingdom’s expanding presence on the global sports stage and the rapid advancement of Saudi athletics.
He also noted that the event serves as a strategic step toward strengthening Saudi Arabia’s position as a leading force in international athletics.
The Saudi capital will host the event in line with the ambitious objectives of the Saudi Vision 2030 which seeks to position the Kingdom as a prestigious global sports destination.
It also represents the first step in an advanced roadmap toward the launch of the Saudi Elite Athletics League in 2027, further supporting the advancement of the sport at both regional and international levels.
