Putin, Trump Discuss Iran Ceasefire and Ukraine War in Lengthy Call

Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump held a frank, businesslike phone conversation on Wednesday, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed. The leaders talked for more than 90 minutes about Iran, Ukraine, and regional stability. Moreover, Moscow initiated the call, Ushakov told reporters during a phone briefing Wednesday.

The two leaders focused heavily on the situation regarding Iran and the Arabian Gulf during their lengthy diplomatic conversation. Putin praised Trump’s decision to extend the ceasefire with Iran because it provides a vital window for ongoing peace negotiations.

However, the Russian leader warned that any military action by the US or Israel would cause extremely damaging global consequences. Russia remains firmly committed to providing assistance to diplomatic efforts to ensure regional stability stays intact throughout the coming months.

The Conflict in Ukraine

In Washington, President Trump confirmed the “very good conversation” but noted the dialogue focused primarily on the ongoing Ukraine war. Trump told Putin that Russia must end the invasion of Ukraine before he accepts any help regarding the Iran crisis.

Ushakov countered by claiming Russian troops currently hold the strategic initiative and continue pushing back enemy positions along the line. Both leaders reportedly shared similar assessments of the Kyiv regime, accusing European supporters of pursuing policies that prolong the conflict.

Victory Day Ceasefire

President Putin proposed a temporary ceasefire to honor the upcoming Victory Day celebrations commemorating the Soviet triumph over Nazi Germany. Trump actively supported this initiative because the holiday marks a shared historical victory for both the United States and Russia.

While the Kremlin plans a slimmed-down parade due to retaliatory strike threats, this brief pause offers a rare moment of peace. The international community now waits to see if these discussions will lead to a lasting reduction in active global hostilities.
