Putin Agrees to ‘Some’ US Proposals in Ukraine Peace Talks: Kremlin

The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, accepted some of the proposals included in the US peace plan to end the war in Ukraine, according to the Kremlin.

The US and Russia held talks in Moscow on Tuesday to discuss US President Donald Trump’s 28-point peace plan, following negotiations with the Ukrainian side in Florida on Monday.

The talks in the Kremlin involved Putin, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, according to Reuters.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the Kremlin Spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, dismissed claims that the Russian President rejected the US plan.

“A direct exchange of views took place yesterday for the first time. Some things were accepted, some things were marked as unacceptable – this is a normal working process of finding a compromise,” Peskov said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Putin’s foreign policy aide, Yuri Ushakov, confirmed that the talks were useful, but a “compromise option was not found,” reported Russian news agency TASS.

“Some American proposals look more or less acceptable, but they need to be discussed. Part of the wording we were offered is unacceptable,” he said, adding that “the contacts will continue.”

Ushakov noted that Washington seeks a long-term settlement in Ukraine. “The atmosphere is constructive, and the Americans are prepared to make every effort to achieve a long-term settlement, which aligns with our objectives,” he said.

However, he declined to provide details about the discussions. “I can’t speak about the details because we agreed that neither we nor the Americans will comment specifically on what we discussed or how,” Ushakov noted.

The US plan has faced criticism for being favorable to Russia, as it granted Moscow some of its key demands. Therefore, American diplomats revised the proposal to reassure Kyiv and European allies, but have not disclosed the details.
