The Ministry of Tourism in Saudi Arabia revealed preliminary data for the first half of 2023. This data highlights the development in the performance of the tourism sector in Saudi Arabia.

It aims to inform local and foreign investors and those interested in the sector’s performance,according to SABQ On Line Newspaper.

Impact of Ministry’s Efforts

The results affirm the effectiveness of the Ministry of tourism and its partners in developing the tourism sector. This includes improving the quality of services and tourist products offered and enhancing visa structuring.

Total Tourist Numbers, Spending

During the first half of 2023, the Ministry of tourism Saudi Arabia witnessed a total of 53.6 million tourists (including overnight visitors for all purposes).

This figure includes 14.6 million international tourists and 39.0 million domestic tourists. Total tourism spending reached 150 billion Riyals, with 86.9 billion Riyals from international tourism and 63.1 billion Riyals from domestic tourism.

Record-Breaking Growth in International Tourism

In the same period, international tourism in Saudi Arabia achieved historic numbers. There was a significant increase of 142% in tourist numbers and 132% in tourism spending compared to the same period in 2022.

Continuous Growth in Tourism Sector

The continuous development in the tourism sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has led to a general increase in the number of international tourists for all purposes.

The top reasons for visits, especially for leisure and holidays, saw the highest growth in the first half of 2023, with a 347% increase compared to the same period in 2022.

Increase in Domestic Tourism Spending

Domestic tourism spending rose by 16% in the first half of 2023, compared to 2022. Consequently, the increase is due to longer stays, up from 4.6 to 6.3 nights on average.

Furthermore, leisure trips were most popular, drawing 16.6 million tourists (43% of the total). Therefore, this marks an 18% increase from the first half of 2022.
