
King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) Assistant Supervisor-General for Planning and Development, Dr. Aqeel Al-Ghamdi, met today in Riyadh with the Director of the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), Ms. Gunn Jorid Roset, and her accompanying delegation. The meeting was also attended by the Norwegian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ms. Kjersti Tromsdal.
The meeting reviewed prospects for cooperation in humanitarian and relief efforts, ways to improve quality of life, and joint contributions toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
Furthermore, discussions also addressed enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of humanitarian assistance to developing countries, ensuring aid reaches the most vulnerable populations in accordance with international humanitarian principles and best practices.
Both sides exchanged views on recent humanitarian developments in priority areas, with particular attention to the situation in Palestine, especially the Gaza Strip, amid escalating humanitarian needs. They also reviewed developments in Sudan, Syria, and Yemen, highlighting the urgent needs of communities affected by prolonged conflicts and crises.
Additionally, the meeting further explored practical mechanisms to strengthen cooperation between KSrelief and NORAD, including support for humanitarian partners, enhanced coordination in light of global funding challenges, and measures to ensure the sustainability and impact of humanitarian responses. Areas of collaboration discussed included joint relief, development, and humanitarian projects, as well as volunteer initiatives and programs aimed at building local capacities.
