KSA Enters Guinness World Records for Largest Sustainable Farm
Saudi Arabia has made history by entering the Guinness World Records with the creation of the largest sustainable farm in the world. This remarkable achievement showcases the kingdom’s commitment to agriculture and environmental conservation.
Guinness World Records
In a ceremony held at the headquarters of the Saudi Reef Program in Riyadh, Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli received the registration certificate from the Guinness World Records.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture Mansour Al-Mushaiti, Secretary-General of the Reef Program Ghassan Bakri, and other ministry staff. This recognition by the prestigious Guinness World Records highlights the kingdom’s dedication to innovation and sustainability in the agricultural sector.
What Makes the Farm Eligible for Guinness World Records?
The farm is an extension of the rejuvenated water farming research unit of the Bin Hashbal Valley located in the Asir Region.
Covering an impressive area of over 3.2 million square meters, the farm is the largest of its kind globally.
It is divided into two sections, each featuring a concrete tank with a capacity of 500 cubic meters and an automatic irrigation network that ensures efficient water distribution to all plants in the fields.
Additionally, the farm boasts five air-conditioned and sheltered houses, providing a comfortable working environment for the farm staff.
Sustainable Irrigation Practices
One of the key factors contributing to the farm’s sustainability is its reliance on treated water for irrigation.
Experts and specialists oversee the irrigation process, which occurs in several phases.
By utilizing treated water, the farm minimizes its impact on freshwater resources and promotes responsible water management practices. This approach aligns with the Kingdom’s efforts to address water scarcity and ensure the long-term viability of agricultural activities.
Diverse Cultivation
The expansive farm accommodates a wide range of crops and fruits, showcasing the kingdom’s agricultural diversity. Among the crops cultivated are clover, lemons, oranges, tangerines, pomegranates, grapes, figs, almonds, and olives.
