KSA affirms that Palestinians will not achieve peace unless they obtain their rights

KSA affirmed that peace and stability cannot be achieved for the Palestinian people unless they obtain their legitimate rights to live on their land in a manner that realizes their aspirations.

That is based on the principles of the UN Charter, which is primarily concerned with achieving international security and peace, eliminating causes that threaten peace, in a manner that confirms respect for the principle of equality in rights among peoples, according to the SPA”.

This came in a speech delivered by the Deputy Permanent Representative of KSA to the UN , Dr. Khaled bin Muhammad Manzlawi, during the 75th session of the UN General Assembly.

Manzlawi said: The Palestinian issue is a fundamental Arab issue, stressing that Saudi Arabia has not hesitated to defend the Palestinian cause since the era of the founder, King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman, to this day.

He pointed out that Saudi Arabia’s position remains firm in the Palestinian issue, in defending the legitimate rights of Palestinians, and in adhering to the Arab peace initiative that was drawn up by the KSA and adopted by the Arab countries at the Beirut summit in 2002.

This initiative affirms the right of the Palestinians to obtain an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital, the return of refugees, and the withdrawal of the occupation from the possible Syrian Arab Golan.

He added: Saudi Arabia once again expresses its commitment to support the strategic choice for peace in accordance with international resolutions and laws, and stresses the importance of ceasing the Israeli occupation from building settlements on Palestinian lands.

Whereas, it supports what was stated in Security Council Resolution 2334, which affirms that the establishment of Israeli settlements on Palestinian lands constitutes a flagrant violation under international law and an obstacle to achieving permanent peace.

With regard to the socio-economic conditions, Saudi Arabia stressed the importance of Palestinians obtaining their rights to establish economic growth that contributes to providing livelihoods, especially in light of the economic downturn due to Covid-19 pandemic.

He continued, saying: Because of Saudi Arabia’s pioneering role in the humanitarian field, and its belief in the right of the Palestinian people to peace and stability, the Saudi government has not hesitated to provide humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.

He explained that Saudi Arabia is one of the largest donors to (UNRWA), through the agreements signed with the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Action and the Saudi Fund for Development.
