King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) significantly strengthened Saudi-Italian scientific cooperation during the Riyadh Investment and Business Forum. The university signed three major memoranda of understanding with leading Italian academic and industrial partners on 25-26 November.
Consequently, KAUST reinforces its global role while directly supporting Saudi Vision 2030’s scientific and economic ambitions. These new agreements focus squarely on microelectronics, artificial intelligence, life sciences, and maritime innovation.
Academic Collaboration Deepens
KAUST established a comprehensive five-year partnership with Politecnico di Torino University immediately after the forum concluded. This active collaboration will drive joint research projects and academic exchanges in critical fields like nanoelectronics and smart health technologies.
Furthermore, KAUST expanded its existing agreement with Italy’s premier Italian Institute of Technology (IIT). Together, they will intensify research efforts in robotics, advanced materials, and computational sciences right away.
Moreover, KAUST signed a vital agreement with ELT Group to transform scientific discoveries into practical Saudi industrial applications. This initiative creates a dedicated platform ensuring cutting-edge research directly benefits the Kingdom’s growing technology ecosystem effectively.
Simultaneously, KAUST launched a specialized scholarship program with maritime giant Fincantieri, that will cultivate Saudi talent developing next-generation navigation security systems and authenticating vessel tracking data.
Vision 2030 Momentum Builds
These strategic moves position KAUST as a central catalyst for Saudi Arabia’s transformation into a global science hub. Professor Gianluca Setti of KAUST emphasized the partnerships’ strategic value clearly: “These agreements showcase powerful Saudi-Italian cooperation advancing research, technology, and talent creation directly. We connect KAUST’s strengths with Italy’s best institutions to unlock innovation pathways for Saudi economic diversification and a knowledge-based future.”
Therefore, KAUST continues driving high-impact international science that builds national capability daily. Its leadership in forging such vital global links remains undeniable and essential for progress.
