Gulf Ministerial Council Calls for Gaza War Halt, UAE Sovereignty Support

The Ministerial Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, at its 161st session, issued its final statement today, Monday.

The final statement condemned the continued Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, targeting Palestinian civilians and forcibly displacing them.

Gaza Strip

The council affirmed its support for the brotherly Palestinian people amid the current developments in Gaza and its surroundings. It called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and the end of Israeli military operations, as well as the lifting of the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip and alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people.

The council hold Israel legally responsible before the international community for its ongoing violations and assaults against innocent civilians, and consider these acts as war crimes under international humanitarian law.

The statement also emphasized the importance of preparing a comprehensive plan for the return of the Palestinian Authority to Gaza upon the end of the war in Gaza, and the Gulf Cooperation Council’s rejection of the idea of separating Gaza from the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

Rights to Durra Field

It was also emphasized that the Durra field is entirely located within the maritime areas of Kuwait, and the ownership of natural resources in the divided submerged area adjacent to the Saudi-Kuwaiti divided area, including the entire Durra field, is a shared ownership between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait only, and they alone have the full rights to exploit the natural resources in that area.

Finally, the council expressed its deep concern over the recent highly dangerous developments in the military escalation in the Middle East region. It emphasized the importance of reaching understandings between Iran and the countries concerned with the nuclear issue to maintain the security and stability of the region, and to support the sovereignty of the UAE over its three islands: Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa.
