Foundation Stone Laid for Power Plant Projects in Hadhramaut

The foundation stone has been laid in Al-Mukalla for new power plant projects with a combined capacity of 100 megawatts, aimed at supporting the Hadhramaut coast. These projects are designed to boost energy production efficiency, improve operational reliability, and ensure consistent delivery of essential services across the governorate.

The ceremony took place under the patronage of Presidential Leadership Council Member and Hadhramaut Governor Salem Ahmed Al-Khanbashi. The projects are being carried out through a three-way partnership between the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), the Yemeni Ministry of Electricity and Energy, and Gulf Power International Company under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model.

In addition, a similar 100-megawatt power plant will be constructed in the Hadhramaut Valley and Desert as part of the same initiative. These projects are based on a memorandum of understanding between SDRPY, the Yemeni Ministry of Electricity and Energy, and Gulf Power International Company. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by several officials, including SDRPY representatives and local government leaders.

Moreover, these developments aim to strengthen infrastructure, support local communities, and enhance the quality of public services in Yemen.

Governor Al-Khanbashi expressed his appreciation to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their ongoing support through SDRPY. He also noted that these projects are expected to mark a significant turning point in improving services and driving development in Hadhramaut after years of challenges.

SDRPY initiatives have played a key role in increasing electricity production capacity across multiple Yemeni governorates, while also supporting essential sectors such as education and healthcare. The program has further promoted renewable energy solutions through various projects.

Overall, SDRPY’s efforts include building new power plants, upgrading existing facilities, and providing modern equipment—contributing to more reliable electricity supply and improved living conditions for residents in beneficiary areas.
