The Ancient Kingdoms Festival 2025 officially kicked off yesterday with an opening ceremony at the Al Hijr archaeological site, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
Set to run until December 6, the festival invites visitors to explore AlUla’s rich history, successive civilizations, and cultural traditions.

The ceremony began with AlUla’s narrators and the city’s local story ambassadors who recounted tales of its storied past and its central role along the historic Incense Route.
Then, visitors enjoyed the “Stories from the Sky” show, a captivating drone display that illuminated Al-Hijr’s skies. Through spectacular light formation, the show offered rare glimpses into the region’s history and successive civilizations, spotlighting its distinctive status in the world heritage scene.
The Ancient Kingdoms Festival also features a series of immersive experiences spanning over 7,000 years of human history, as follows:
- Incense Trail adventure
- Guided walks among Al Hijr’s geological landmarks
- A specially curated children’s tour
- The “Secrets of Ancient Inscriptions” at Jabal Ikmah
- The “Escape House” experience in Al-Ula’s Old Town
Interestingly, the event will welcome the return of the “Al-Hijr Evening” experience beginning November 26, alongside a wide range of cultural and heritage activities, providing visitors with unmissable experiences through interactive, educational, and fully integrated stations.
