Al Nassr Part Ways with Luis Castro after Poor Start

Al Nassr have officially parted ways with Luis Castro following a disappointing beginning to the new season campaign. The Saudi Pro League giants, featuring Cristiano Ronaldo, are reportedly close to hiring Stefano Pioli as the new manager.

Castro’s Struggles and Departure

Castro’s exit marks the end of his 14-month stint, failing to meet the club’s high expectations. Despite leading Al Nassr to second place last season, Castro’s inability to secure titles added to his challenges. Key defeats against Al Hilal and a poor start to the current campaign intensified the pressure.

The team’s poor start to the current campaign—winning just one of their first three matches—further amplified the pressure. They also lost to their arch-rivals in the Super Cup semi-final and the King Cup final on penalties.
Castro’s side have had an underwhelming start to the new season as they have drawn two of their opening three Saudi Pro League games. Their stuttering start continued, as they drew 1-1 in their AFC Champions League opener at Iraqi side Al-Shorta on Monday.

Al Nassr released a statement saying, “Al Nassr can confirm Luis Castro has left. We thank him and his staff for their work.”

Pioli Set to Take Over

As the club search for a replacement, reports suggest former AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli is close to signing. Pioli, who led Milan to a Serie A title in 2021-22, is known for managing star-studded squads. His appointment could provide the leadership and structure Al Nassr need to recover this season.

Pioli’s potential arrival has sparked excitement among Ronaldo fans, hoping his tactical approach will boost team performance. If hired, Pioli would be Ronaldo’s fourth coach at Al Nassr, following Garcia, Jelicic, and Castro.

Al Nassr vs. Al Ettifaq Up Next

Al Nassr’s next challenge is on Friday against Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League. Fans will be watching closely to see if the new coach, possibly Pioli, can guide Al Nassr back to winning ways.

With Pioli’s expected arrival and a fresh start, Al Nassr focus on turning around their season’s disappointing start. They aim to regain their competitive form and challenge for the title.
