Saudi Leadership Offers Condolences to China Following Hong Kong Fire Tragedy
Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and his Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman extended their condolences to China on Friday after a deadly fire in Hong Kong claimed at least 128 lives, according to Arab News.
The fire marked the most devastating blaze the city has experienced in nearly eight decades.
King Salman conveyed his heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims, expressing his wishes “for the safe return of those missing and a speedy recovery for the injured.”
The Crown Prince also sent a cable of condolences to the Chinese President.
Chinese authorities have rescued 128 bodies from the Wang Fuk Court complex in Tai Po, a district near the border with mainland China.
As the complex houses more than 4,600 residents, officials expect a remarkable rise in the death toll, with 200 people remain unaccounted for.
The fire erupted on the afternoon of November 26, quickly spreading through seven of the eight 32-story towers in the complex.
The buildings were wrapped in bamboo scaffolding and green mesh, with layers of foam insulation installed for ongoing renovation work.
Authorities have taken 11 individuals into custody in connection with the tragedy.
