Doha Summit: Leaders Warn Israel’s Actions Threaten Peace, Qatar Urges Tangible Measures

Around 57 leaders and heads of state from across the Arab and Muslim world are flocking to Doha to attend the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit on Monday, with the aim of reaching a unified and collective response to the Israeli attack on Qatar last week.

The draft statement of the summit stressed firm support for Qatar, warning that Israel’s actions in the region, including its blatant attack on Doha, undermine peace efforts and security.

Meanwhile, the Qatari Prime Minister strongly denounced the international community’s double standards, stressing that Qatar will not tolerate any violation to its sovereignty or threat to its national security.

Arab-Islamic Summit Statement

In a strong show of unity, Arab and Islamic leaders and heads of state are gathering in Qatar on Monday to discuss a unified and collective response to the Israeli attack in Doha last week, which targeted Hamas political leadership as they gathered to discuss a US ceasefire proposal.

A Preparatory Ministerial Meeting convened on Sunday to forge a draft statement to be submitted to the summit for discussion. According to Al-Arabiya, the draft statement strongly condemned Israel’s “cowardly, illegal attack” on a residential neighborhood in Doha, calling it a “blatant assault on an Arab-Islamic country and a UN member state.”

It also said that the attack is a dangerous escalation that exposes the hostility of the Israeli extremist government, adding to Israel’s record of criminal acts that threaten both regional and global peace and security.

“The attack on a neutral state serving as a mediator in ceasefire talks is not only a breach of Qatar’s sovereignty, but also on the neutrality of mediation efforts and international peacemaking processes,” the draft statement added.

Full Solidarity with Qatar

The draft statement underscored full solidarity with Qatar, pledging support for any measures Doha takes to respond to this aggression and protect its security, sovereignty, stability, and the safety of its citizens and residents, in accordance with the UN Charter.

Furthermore, it commended the mediation efforts by Qatar, Egypt, and the US to stop the war in Gaza, describing Doha’s role as constructive and essential for advancing peace and stability. It also firmly rejected attempts to justify the Israeli aggression under any pretext and the repeated Israeli threats of targeting Qatar or any other Arab or Islamic state.

Israeli Threats to Peace

The draft statement said that the “Israeli attack on Qatar and the continued hostile Israeli actions, including genocide, ethnic cleansing, starvation, siege, and expansion policies in the occupied Palestinian territories threaten the prospects of peace and regional and international stability and security.”

Moreover, it categorically rejected Israeli attempts to displace the Palestinian people under any pretext, noting that displacement is a “crime against humanity, a flagrant breach to the international law, and a rejected ethnic cleansing policy,” according to Al-Qahera News.

A Call for Tangible Measures

During the Preparatory Ministerial Meeting on Sunday, the Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, strongly condemned the Israeli attack on Doha.

He called the attack “state terrorism – a policy pursued by the current extremist Israeli government, which flouts international law and threatens the security of the entire region in blatant defiance of international legitimacy,” stressing that Qatar “will not tolerate any violation of its sovereignty or threat to its national security.”

Moreover, the Qatari Prime Minister noted that the attack represented a “dangerous precedent that must be confronted with all strength and resolve by our Arab and Islamic countries.”

“We must not remain silent or complacent in the face of this barbaric aggression. Real and tangible measures must be taken at all levels to prevent further escalation,” he said, calling on the international community to “end double standards and hold Israel accountable for all the crimes it has committed.”
