Saudi Arabia Sets Mandatory Uniform for Delivery Workers

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Municipalities and Housing announced that uniform has been mandatory for home delivery workers.

The new regulations are part of the Ministry’s pivotal efforts to elevate its thriving delivery sector.

Professional Appearance

The Ministry has revealed that workers must put on clean appropriate clothing that reflects professional and decent appearance.

Workers must place the name of the establishment or trademark on the establishment’s official uniform or on the delivery box.

Furthermore, they must put on a face mask and hand gloves while transporting food products, and not to place the food box in the seat next to the driver.

The Ministry has required all facilities engaged in the delivery service to obtain a valid municipal license and a home delivery permit.

Vehicles Regulations

Delivery workers must have a car or bicycle equipped and prepared for home delivery only.

Similarly, the vehicles must have valid licenses from the official authorities.

The Ministry demanded all service providers to place the name of the facility or its trademark on the vehicle.

In addition to this, they must have proof of the right to use the vehicle including a vehicle registration license or a driving authorization.

Home delivery Providers must clean their vehicles periodically to ensure that there are no pollutants or odors that may affect food.

As for bicycles, the ministry stipulated that they must use boxes made of non-rusting materials that are long-lasting and easy to clean and purify.

Crucially, workers must separate hot food from cold prepared food before transporting them.

The Ministry also stressed that medicines must be wrapped in closed bags.

Delivery Vehicles

The Ministry has specified types of delivery vehicles as a private car or a motorbike suitable for food facilities such as grocery stores, supermarkets, restaurants, and retail stores selling non-food items.

Other types include a private light transport vehicle appropriate for food facilities such as bakeries, banquet kitchens, and retail and wholesale stores selling non-food items.

The regulations also stipulated that facilities should choose the packaging materials in accordance with the condition of the hot, chilled, and frozen foods.

In general, they must be non-absorbent, tasteless, and odorless, and do not interact with food.

Therefore, the materials must not cause any health damage or any change in the nature or properties of the food.

Containers Regulations

The regulations decisively noted that tightly sealed containers must be used to fill drinks and liquids.

Moreover, facilities must seal them by an adhesive seal, heat sealing, or sewing.

The Ministry indicated that service providers must write warnings in Arabic and English and in red.

Personal Hygiene Practices

The Ministry urged delivery workers to be committed to good personal hygiene practices, as follows:

  • Washing hands regularly
  • Cleaning and shortening nails
  • No Smoking
  • No Eating or drinking while delivering food products

Interestingly, the Ministry advised all involved parties in the delivery sector to offer various educational courses on food safety for food transport workers.
