Stronger Ties: Saudi Arabia, UK Partner in Mining and Industry

Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom have pledged to enhance their cooperation in the critical minerals sector, focusing on future expansion and investment opportunities. Saudi Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar Alkhorayef, met with British Minister of State for Business and Trade, Jonathan Reynolds, to discuss these advancements.

Expanding Economic Partnerships

The meeting addressed the growing importance of critical minerals, particularly in industries like aviation, electric vehicles, and medical technology. Both nations acknowledged the pivotal role of these minerals in the global energy transition and advanced industrial applications. The ministers also discussed opportunities to increase industrial and mining cooperation, encouraging British companies to explore promising investment prospects in Saudi Arabia.

Leveraging Saudi Arabia’s Investment Environment

Saudi Arabia offers significant competitive advantages for foreign investors, including abundant natural resources, advanced infrastructure, and diverse energy sources. The ministers emphasized the need for British investors to capitalize on these opportunities, taking full advantage of Saudi Arabia’s rich investment environment.

Record Trade Levels and Future Targets

Trade between Saudi Arabia and the UK reached a record high, exceeding $21.7 billion. Both countries have set a goal to boost this figure to $37.5 billion by 2030. Since 2017, Saudi investments in the UK have amounted to $21 billion, while foreign direct investment in Saudi Arabia reached $13 billion in 2023.

Critical Minerals and International Cooperation

The discussions emphasized the importance of securing safe and diversified supplies of critical minerals. The UK voiced support for Saudi Arabia’s international mining conference. It pledged participation from leading British institutions to enhance collaboration in this vital sector.

By strengthening their economic partnership, Saudi Arabia and the UK aim to boost growth in key industrial sectors. This will pave the way for future cooperation in critical minerals.
