Saudi Arabia plans to revolutionize access to the Cave of Hira with a new cable car system, set to launch by 2025. Located on Makkah’s Jabal Al Noor, the Cave of Hira holds profound significance as the site where the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) received his first revelation of the Holy Quran.
Enhanced Pilgrimage Experience
The cable car system aims to make the 634-meter-high cave, situated about four kilometers from the Grand Mosque, more accessible to pilgrims and visitors. Currently, the journey to the cave involves a steep climb, but recent upgrades, including a paved road, have improved access.
The project also features a life-size cave model, offering visitors a close-up experience until the cable car operates.
This development will greatly improve Hira Cave‘s accessibility, providing a more comfortable, enriching experience for pilgrims and tourists.
Integrated Cultural Developments
The project is part of the larger Hira Cultural District, spanning over 67,000 square meters. This district includes the opening of three new museums in Jabal Omar and the launch of the Mount Thor Cultural District. These developments are expected to transform the area into a vibrant cultural and historical hub.
