The General Department of Traffic in Saudi Arabia has announced Thursday a significant 50% reduction on accumulated traffic fines across the Kingdom, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
This reduction applies to various categories of offenders, including citizens, residents, visitors, and citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries that have committed violations prior to April 18, 2024.
To avail themselves of this reduction, violators must pay and settle all their outstanding traffic fines within a six-month period, commencing on 18 April 2024, and concluding on 18 October 2024.
Payments can be made through either the SADAD payment system or the National Violations Platform (Efaa).
Authorities have strongly cautioned against engaging with any fraudulent methods, such as suspicious links, websites, or phone calls.
It is important to note that any violations committed after the implementation of the reduction scheme will not qualify for the discount. However, a reduced fine of only 25% will be offered for a single violation, in accordance with Article 75 of the Traffic Law.
This article also stipulates that failure to pay within the objection period and beyond the legal payment deadline may result in imprisonment or enforcement actions.
The violations eligible for the 50% reduction include reckless driving, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h on roads with a speed limit of 120 km/h or less, and exceeding the speed limit by more than 30 km/h on roads with a speed limit of 140 km/h.
Authorities have strongly urged all drivers and road users to strictly adhere to traffic laws, emphasizing the importance of public safety and the reduction of violations on the roads.
