Hamas Invites Elon Musk to Visit Gaza
Following Elon Musk’s visit to Israel, Hamas has invited the American billionaire to visit Gaza and witness the devastation caused by the Israel’s airstrikes.
“We invite him (Elon musk) to visit Gaza to see the extent of the massacres and destruction committed against the people of Gaza, in compliance with the standards of objectivity and credibility,” said a senior Hamas official in a press conference in Beirut on Tuesday.
During the highly-criticized visit of Musk to Israel, the hi-tech billionaire and Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu visited Kfar Aza, a Kibbutz where more than 50 people were killed because of Hamas attack.
The provocative visit did not only draw criticism from the Arab, but from Israelis, as well.
Musk’s Visit to Israel
Starlink’s SpaceX company-owner Elon Musk landed in Tel Aviv on Monday. His visit started on the last day of the four-day truce in Gaza.
“Elon Musk is due to meet with Israel’s Isaac Herzog in the afternoon. Relatives of the hostages held captive in Gaza will also attend the meeting,” announced the office of Israel’s president Issac Herzog Sunday.
“Elon Musk will also meet with the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss security aspects of artificial intelligence,” said Netanyahu’s office.
Avi Charf, an aviation expert with Israel’s Haaretz newspaper, took to Musk-owned X to announce that a plane carrying the American millionaire landed in Israel Monday morning.
Israeli Communications Shlomo Karhi wrote on X that he hopes the visit “will serve as a springboard for future endeavors, as well as enhance your relationship with the Jewish people and values we share with the entire world”.
Starlink to Be Used in Gaza Under Israeli Supervision
As part of Israel’s war on Gaza, it cut all communication networks leaving Gaza strip in complete communication blackout. This blackout lasted for long hours.
Consequently, Musk offered using Starlink to restore communication for “internationally recognised aid organizations” in the Strip.
In return, Karhi objected because “Hamas will use it (Starlink) for terrorist activities”.
However, in a sudden turn of events, Karhi said that Musk and Israel agreed to use Starlink satellite units in Israel, including Gaza Strip, with the approval of the Israeli Ministry of Communications.
Musk & Israel to Discuss Anti-Semitism
During Musk’s visit, Israeli officials intend to bring up online antisemitism.
On November 15, Musk faced backlash after he agreed with an X post that was deemed anti-Semitic.
Major U.S. companies including Walt Disney (DIS.N) and Warner Bros Discovery (WBD.O) paused their advertisements on his social media site.
Elon Musk said that X is a platform that tolerates different points of view. However, the company will limit the distribution of certain posts that may violate its policies.
On September 18, Netanyahu met with Musk. The PM urged him to find the balance between protecting freedom of expression and combating hate speech.
